O porta-voz da Presidência da República, Otávio do Rêgo Barros, anunciou hoje (18) que o Ministério da Saúde acompanhará por 20 anos os profissionais, que atuaram no resgate das vítimas do rompimento da barragem da Mina Córrego do Feijão, em Brumadinho, nos arredores de Belo Horizonte (MG) desde o último dia 25. 

Rêgo Barros afirmou que cerca de mil profissionais serão monitorados entre bombeiros, agentes da Força Nacional de Segurança, Defesa Civil e do Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais (Ibama).

Segundo o porta-voz, pesquisadores da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), do Instituto Evandro Chagas, das universidades federais de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), além da organização internacional Médicos Sem Fronteiras vão participar desse acompanhamento.

Rêgo Barros reiterou hoje que o governo federal atendeu a recomendação da Agência Nacional de Mineiração (ANM) e determinou a extinção das barragens do tipo “a montante”. A resolução foi publicada hoje no Diário Oficial da União.

As barragens desse tipo devem ser extintas ou remodeladas até 2023. Já aquelas que já estão desativadas devem ser eliminadas até 15 de agosto de 2021.

A barragem que se rompeu em Brumadinho é do tipo a montante. Há 84 barragens desta modalidade em funcionamento no país, das quais 43 são classificadas de “alto dano potencial”: quando há risco de rompimento com ameaça a vidas e prejuízos econômicos e ambientais.

No período dos anos de 1970 a 1990, modelo “a montante” era a opção. Porém, a agência listou um “histórico de acidentes recentes em barragens de mineração”: Herculano Mineração, Samarco Mineração, Mont Polley (Canadá) e Vale S.A. Agencia Brasil
